FRIDAY = OPENING PARTY
The venue is a bar called café Havelaar. This will be a friendly and informal party where everyone will come together to just relax and have fun.
We start with a Comedy show from our Live Act who will make sure there will be plenty of smiles! After the show we will receive the Globe Lie Tour team who have big plans for 2019 and will get on stage to tell us about their adventures. After that we are open to everyone during the open mic session, which will be hosted by Patricia Steere.
With a max capacity of 180, divided in 2 rooms we have limited space. This is a private party in the center of Amsterdam and you will need a combi ticket upon entry. You can also buy a 15 euro entry ticket at the door (only if the event is not sold out).
If you want to do some activism this is a great starting location, as it’s located in the city centre. The subway to the central station or campsite is a 4 minute walk from the bar. Food, bars, shops, coffee shops, … everything is just around the corner!
The last free ferry at the train station leaves around midnight, the last subway an hour later. If you want to stay and party you will have to check for the bus, which is the only transport left late at night. Amsterdam has a great network and everyone will find transport that fits their needs.
SATURDAY = DEBATE DAY
Located in our main venue, the OBA theatre which is on the top floor of the public library. A fun fact: the Amsterdam public library is the biggest library in Europe, with 5 floors of books and more books! The venue have asked us not to do any form of activism inside or in close proximity of the building! You will be removed from the event if you do not respect this.
We will start the morning with the introduction of all the debaters. Each will have about 20 minutes to introduce themselves. After lunch the debate will start with a half hour break around 15:00h. Gary John will be the mediator, and will take an objective role. We finish the debate with a Q&A session, all attendees will have a chance to ask a question to our debaters.
For this debate, we will have a list of questions set-up for both sides. This gives everyone a chance to prepare and to research before coming on stage. The list will be made in agreement with all involved. You can always send us questions or wait for the Q&A to ask them yourselves.
We will not tolerate name calling or disrespect towards any debaters. We want to have an open discussion and make an example. If we show this can be done in a professional and constructive matter, more people will stand-up to join in the future.
Debaters will be asked for credentials and we are trying our best to get the highest level of debaters to join us. If you have any connections to do so, please send us an email. We won’t make the information public without permission. We respect the wishes of our participants and ask you do to the same. This is a sensitive subject and we want to avoid a withdrawl at all cost. If you have any questions about the debate, contact Gary John.
SUNDAY = SPEAKERS DAY
Located in our main venue, the OBA theatre which is on the top floor of the public library. The venue have asked us not to do any form of activism inside or in close proximity of the building! You will be removed from the event if you do not respect this.
We have 6 great speakers lined up today, each will have about 45 minutes to do a little presentation!
If we got some time left, the audience will get the chance to ask some questions. After this we will close the event and get some much needed sleep!
